The John Lennon Awards

As you may have heard, my original song, co-written with the Rusty Horse Band, "Green Mountain State" won the Grand Prize of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Folk Category (Session I) back in August 2013. Now I have a 1/24 chance of winning the Lennon Award for Song of the Year (a 20,000$ prize) and I need your help. Green Mountain State is going head to head in a voting battle against the winner of the Folk Category in Session II. Whoever comes out on top will have a 1/12 shot at the top prize.

Now, in all honesty - I know these voting competitions can be a pain. This is coming at the same time as the CBC Searchlight Competition, not to mention the real Provincial elections in Quebec this Monday (actually if I'm going to encourage you to vote for anything, PLEASE go rock the vote on Monday!). I know many of you will already be voting for your favourite music/political party and I completely understand if you cannot or choose not to participate. I am so grateful for all of the support you have all given me in these past years. But if you wish to lend a hand, or check out the song I'm up against, just visit www.jlsc.com/vote and vote for your favourite song (whether it be mine or "Your Footprints" by Michelle Lockey). You can vote as much or as little as you want up to once per day from today until April 29th. Feel free to share the link should you so desire.

You are all wonderful. I will have news for you all soon about new tour dates and local shows! In the meantime, for those of you in Montreal you can always catch me on Monday nights at Grumpy's (1242 Rue Bishop) for Chick Pickin' (a most wonderful evening where we showcase women singer-songwriters). It's FREE, and it starts at 9:30pm.

Oh and here's the live chamber folk edition of Green Mountain State that was filmed at Casa Del Popolo last month!

Under the Snow Festival with Marissa Nadler!

Oh, it has been a fantastic month, and it keeps getting better. I just got back from Kansas City, Missouri last week for the Folk Alliance conference, where I was playing music all day and all night. I picked up some new skills on banjo, learning from some incredible teachers including Riley Baugus and Ken Perlman and stayed up late playing in hotel rooms and showcases with Gabrielle Papillon (who by the way is coming out with a new album!).

Jammin' in La La Land

This week the Under The Snow Festival begins! I am very excited to be part of the line-up, and absolutely floored that I'll be opening up for Marissa Nadler. I've been a fan of hers since I was in my late teens. Part of me still can't believe that I'll be playing on the same stage! She has a new album out, called "July". I'll be bringing back Ari Swan and Quinn Brander on strings as well as Lisa Malachowski on backing vocals. The show is this Saturday March 8th at Casa del Popolo, doors open at 8:30pm! Get your tickets in advance here,'cause this one might just sell out: http://www.liftticketsystem.com/tickets/marissa-nadler-corinna-rose.

See you all soon!

Show this Friday with Peter Katz!

Let's just say I am so so so excited for this show. I'll be playing as a trio with Ari Swan (violin) and Quinn Brander (cello). We have rearranged old songs with the help of Nick Lavigne and may even do a new song or two.

All the details (and tickets) are here: http://www.hellodarlinproductions.com/upcoming_concerts.htm
8pm, Friday February 7th!

Did I mention we are opening for Folk machine Peter Katz!?

New Year, New Projects, New Shows

I am long overdue for a post, aren't I? The last few months have been incredible- an east coast tour with Heirloom, amazing jam times the Folk Music Ontario conference, playing a couple of sweet shows with my very own Dad and guitar master Martin Posen, and finally coming home to Montreal to rest a while in my hometown.

Heirloom hanging out in Cape Breton for the very first time.

The new year is bringing some exciting things too! I am now the official host of Chick Pickin' Mondays at Grumpy's, a singer-songwriter night for women folks. Each week we have a new guest coming through, sometimes local, sometimes from the other end of the country (including friends Jenny and Kristen Berkel, Ainsley McNeaney, Heirloom, Gabrielle Papillon, Cécile Doo-Kingué... the list goes on!). The full schedule can be viewed at http://chickpickin.wix.com/home. I'll be there most weeks, brandishing a banjo or a guitar, or potentially both, performing my usual material, and some unusual material (covers, and hopefully some new songs very soon).

Next week I am off to record on Gabrielle Papillon's new album! I'll be flying in to Halifax, sticking around for a few days to record some banjo, vocals and perhaps other random instruments. I am so excited for her new record. As part of my new years resolution to finally write some new material, I'm planning on hanging out for a few extra days to get inspired by the ocean, and jam with some of my beautiful East Coast musician friends.

When I get back I've got a really special show coming up- I am very excited to announce that I'll be opening for Peter Katz at Petit Campus on February 7th. More details coming soon, but save the date in the meantime! I may even have some sweet guests coming to play with me too.

Happy New Year (and I promise to post more sooner rather than later),

Corinna

John Lennon Songwriting Contest & POP Montreal

I am so pleased to announce that the song "Green Mountain State" that I co-wrote with the Rusty Horse Band (and was featured in Sarah Polley's film, "Take This Waltz") just won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Folk Category! Check us out on the front page: http://www.jlsc.com/winners/2013a/winners.php

We are so stoked, and what fabulous news to receive while on tour. Leah and I have had a fabulous trip - We are on the train home to Montreal as we speak, Leah's editing some sweet photos beside me and we're just catching up on some e-mails. We'll be posting some good ones soon!

In the meantime, here's a shot of us playing with Sarah Jane Scouten and Kristen Berkel in Bruno, SK! We happened to run into them in Saskatoon the night before, and they invited us to come celebtrate the arrival of CTV Saskatoon, in Bruno. We jammed all day, and Leah even line danced.

Oh and did I mention that we'll be playing TWICE at POP Montreal this year? Come hang out at Petit Campus on Friday Sept. 27th for 8:30pm (http://indiemontreal.ca/fr/?p=5686), or at Brasserie Beaubien on Sunday Sept. 29th (with the full band!) at 9:15pm (https://www.facebook.com/events/431996113576971/), or both! We'd love to see you there.

'till next time!

I am SO excited to finally share this! We are launching a verse contest to the song "So It Goes".

Zoofest with David Martel

Wow, what an amazing month! I've been travelling to and from the Maritimes (with Leah Dolgoy rocking it on Autoharp), for some super fun festivals, and wow, the Montreal Folk Fest was incredible (holy cow Tim O'Brien is talented), oh and did I mention a really nice tweet about the new record from Sarah Polley (see right side bar). I'm still reveling in the wonderfulness that was June.

I'm home for a couple of months now, to play some sweet local shows! On Saturday July 13th, I'll be opening for David Martel at Zoofest! I had the pleasure of playing at the Dunham Folk and Wine Festival in 2011 so I am so excited to share the stage with him again. The show takes place at Théâtre Ste. Catherine (264 Rue St Catherine E)- Doors at 9:30pm, show starts at 10pm! Get your tickets now over at http://indiemontreal.ca/david-martel-corinna-rose/ or in stores at Cheap Thrills, L'Oblique, Atom Heart or La Vitrine.

I'll leave you with a lovely picture from Full Circle Festival in Newport Landing Nova Scotia. Leah & I were performing while the sun was setting, meanwhile Morgan MacDonald and Jennah Barry wrote a couple of surprise verses to the song So It Goes. What a fun weekend.

New T-Shirts! Podcast

Inspired by the song So It Goes, you too can root for poor hipster Sam as he's left alone on a bridge, or for a little banjo girl as she ditches him in the dark. Get 'em at one of my upcoming shows (Full Circle Fest in NS this weekend, Café Namasthé in Ormstown on June 28th, or at Theatre Ste. Catherine in Montreal on July 13th) OR you can order them directly from my bandcamp page! Design by Ariana Shadlyn.
